Phenological Observation December 2020 Report: Analysis of Precipitation, Planting and Development in Grains and Legumes!

The report "Phenological Evaluation - Precipitation, Planting and Development Analysis in Grains and Legumes, December 2020" prepared by Turkish Grain Board (TMO) by following the developments in the field is available on the link.
According to the report:
- It is estimated that the cultivated areas for wheat and barley increased by 1% as against previous year. Moreover, cultivation for durum wheat will increase presumably around 5% depending upon 10% rise in Southeastern Anatolia (30% in Şanlıurfa) and 4% in Central Anatolia.
- Cereal planting reaches 98 percent complete for winter. Grain plantings were delayed due to the dry season, especially in the inner parts of our country, and planting was done on dry land. Plantings will be completed in January, following the 2nd crop maize harvest in the Southeast and in local areas where rainfall is expected, and some producers who cannot make winter planting will plant barley, corn and sunflower for summer.
- October, November and December were meteorologically dry in many regions. If the way things stand, the risk of ungermination of cereals or germination without bust-out in the barren areas will increase even more in the Central Anatolia Region, the inner parts of the Aegean Region and the inner and middle parts of the Black Sea Region and in the arid areas. It is quite clear that development breakes no squares where germination and foliation takes place in irrigated and early planted areas throughout the country, although it lags behind (78 percent of our cereal fields are barren).
- It was determined that bust-outs followed a fluctuating course and that there was no uniform ascent in the areas where the crop-up started. Due to insufficient rainfall and high temperatures compared to the season, the plant has developed far below the level it should have been. Lack of annealing and hardening on the soil surface caused bust-out problems in barren lands.
- However, this adverse conditions will recover after mid-January with the precipitation around the seasonal norms. Due to the fact that the plant is in a stagnant period between January and March, it is considered that it will not be healthy to express an opinion on the agricultural drought without evaluating the rainfall in April and May, as the water need is reduced to a minimum.

In Marmara, Mediterranean, Southeastern (except Şanlıurfa), Eastern Anatolia and Coastal Aegean regions, the development of grains is better than other regions. The report also includes various evaluations for legumes.
