CEMA’s Business Barometer Index Maintains Upswing in April!

The general Business Climate Index for the Agricultural Machinery Industry in Europe hits a new all-time high since 2011 after having reached the positive range in October for the first time since mid-2019. As for the barometer,  the index is at +66 points (on a scale of -100 to +100) in April.

Survey results show that turnover expectations for the coming months have reached a safe level across the industry, based on higher volumes accumulated from orders. On the other hand, only 3 percent of respondents expect a decrease in incoming orders. It is pointed out that unlike the upward trends in 2010 and 2017, the improvement in the current business index is above the expectations for the next six months. The responses to the survey indicate that the industry is continuously adjusting its future expectations to a surprisingly well-performing current business and to an ever-increasing order intake from month to month.

According to the results reflected in the survey evaluations, the expectations of European industrialists in many countries continue to improve. As regards the regional breakdown, it is striking that the exhibitors across the EU market expect an increase in turnover in the next six months. However, it is stated that the dealer stocks for new equipment have decreased significantly in almost all of the European markets in recent months, and may have fallen below the optimal level in some markets. Likewise, another noteworthy fact that the second-hand equipment stocks have been completely cleansed (less for combine harvesters).
