Turkish Tractor Industry as of August 2017
The latest available data shows that, tractor production in the country is stable while the market increases and the exports slightly decrease. Overall, the tractor industry in Turkey constituted of manufacturing, imports, and exports has been in an expand trend for the last years.
The Production
Local and foreign brands have their manufacturing facilities in Turkey. The latest figures indicates the amount of total tractors produced in January-August period of 2017 is quite similar to that of 2016. The production has been slightly increasing since 2013, and at average more than 60.000 tractors are produced in Turkey annually.
The Market
There are more than 30 brands, those are local and foreign ones, have been competing in Turkish tractor market. The market is the biggest in Europe and more than 80% of the tractors registered are bigger than 50 HP. Evaluating the latest figures, the market has increased by 5% in January-July period of 2017 compared to that of 2016. The market has been in a continuous increase trend since 2013, and last year more than 70.000 tractors registered to traffic in Turkey. It will not be quite surprizing if the number of registered tractors go beyond 2016 level in the full year 2017.
The Exports & Imports
Turkish brands not only sell their tractors in Turkey but also in foreign countries. At average almost 9.000 tractors are exported from Turkey annually. However, compared to last year same period, exports have been in a slight decrease trend by 2% in January-August period of the year 2017. Turkish tractor market is open to foreign brands as well, and includind big players there are many foreign tractor brands imported to Turkey. Showing quite different figures year by year, it could be correct to say imports are increasing their share in Turkish market. On the other hand, especially customs union and other trade agreements between Turkey and EU have been subjects of dispute lately which would have effects on the tractor imports to Turkey in the near future.
